Northwest Running and Triathlon Calendar - 2014 and Beyond

As you may have heard, since I said it in the last post, I am not continuing to write up the Northwest Running and Triathlon Calendar for The Two R's. It took a metric boatload of time every week to write it and I'm just taking a break from it. Maybe it will come back at some point and maybe it won't. I'm not sure.

I started to compile the calendar on The Two R's because there just isn't a good, comprehensive, Northwest calendar out there. As you'll see...

If you need to find a race, try one of these:

-RaceCenter NW
Good mix of races from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

-Northwest Runner
Almost exclusively Washington State races

-Willamette Valley Road Runners Calendar
Mostly Oregon, obviously, but also some Washington, California and Hawaii

-Eclectic Edge Racing Calendar
Races put on by EER, mainly in Oregon

-3 Rivers Road Runners Calendar
Mainly Washington races in the Tri-Cities area

-Running in the USA
Choose races by any state in the USA

The problem with all of these, and pretty much any race calendar, is they're mostly by submissions from race directors, or they're just for races put on by one particular group. I've yet to find a good compiler site. There isn't a truly comprehensive site for Northwest racing. That's what I was trying to accomplish with my calendar.

Finally...

Yes, finally. I've got a new article out there on the racks. It's in the August issue of RaceCenter magazine and it's titled "Keeping Pace with Technology" or something equally dorky. But it's a good read, I'm sure. Well, I'm not completely sure because I usually just skim them. Hey, I wrote it once, I should know what it says without having to read it again. Of course, I would always read my Northwest Runner articles all the way through just to see how the Editor there mangled it this time.

By the way, if a store makes you pay for your RaceCenter magazine, just keep looking around. I've picked up copies in a number of different stores and about 50% of the stores charge for the magazine and about 50% give them away. Don't ask me why...I don't know.

A year late...but still purrrty...

Well, it only took me a year to get my hands on my award for being part of the 3rd place finishing team in the 2007 NW Passage Ragnar Relay! And it's nice! And you know that if the fabled NW Runner team took third with me on the squad, then everyone but me on the team was startlingly fast. The third place award, as you can see, is a bronze relay baton...pretty sweet.

Of Course, we're in the Valley now, that would be the Yakima Valley, not the Willamette Valley, and we're on our fourth straight day of 90-plus temps with at least four or five more lined up to come. Let me tell you, that's some hot running right there.

Since I'm at the rents and forced to stomach their dial-up connection, this post is coming straight at you from the Union Gap McDonalds! $2.95 for two hours...someone please tell me where to find free wi-fi around this town!

The latest if not greatest...

The new article is just a short profile, but it's definitely worthy of a read. I interviewed Barbara Macklow, a 73 year old Bellingham, WA resident that broke the record of oldest runner to finish the JFK 50-miler in Washington DC. Yes, she's 73. Yes, she ran a 50 mile race. No, not kilometers...miles. I know. Crazy. When I'm 73, I don't plan on moving out of remote control range of the TV, so color me impressed. Go grab yourself the new issue of Northwest Runner and check it out.
