Beaver Freezer Triathlon Registration! Monday, Feb. 3rd at 8:00am

Well, this snuck right up on me. On Monday, Feb 3rd, right at 8:00am, they'll open up the registration for the super-famous Beaver Freezer Triathlon, put on by the awesome OSU Tri Team.

As you should know by now, this baby is way popular and sells out pretty much instantaneously every single year. I think last year, maybe, it was open until the afternoon on the day registration opened, but there have been years where it sells out in a couple hours.

So if you want to race the Freezer, get in front of your computer with your credit card in hand on Monday morning!

Northwest Running and Triathlon Calendar - October 2013 - Halloween Races and the Beaver Fever!

For the first time ever, the late Fall Beaver Fever Duathlon will now have a Triathlon as well!

Wowza. That's pretty late for a tri. I can't think of any other triathlons in the Willamette Valley (or in the NW?) that take place that late in the year. Can you? The swim will take place in the Philomath City Pool and there will be both a road bike division and a mountain bike division (although this year, everybody will ride on the roads) and the run leg will be on a XC course.

This should be a fun one...but it's almost sold out, so get on it now!

Let's Race!

New RaceCenter NW Magazine Article - Triathlon: More for Less

Yes, "More for Less." No, I was never destined to be a copywriter. But hey, we all have our talents, as small as they may be.

So there is a new issue of RaceCenter out now! Please run quickly to your nearest running/shoe store and/or Jamba Juice and grab a copy. Oh, and get a Strawberry Surf Rider while you're there - Nom Nom!

If you're one of those new-fangled kids with your fancy iPhone-type device, then head to the digital version of RaceCenter right here.

This month we're concentrating on how to race triathlon without being a rich, middle-aged white person. Good luck!

Seriously though - if you read my blog, you know my general view on triathlons. Fantastic sport that is pricing itself out of range for most normal people...and getting worse as the sport becomes more popular! Grrrr...

Anyhoo, my article, Triathlon: More for Less, offers up a few choice ideas on how to bring down the costs. First, be a superstar and get sponsored. For the rest of my great ideas, go read the article.

I want to give a quick thanks to Scott Benjamin, Blair Bronson and Chris Bagg for answering my triathlon questions with humor, grace and knowledge. Thanks guys, I hope you all have a great upcoming tri season.

Oh, and if someone wants to buy me that $10,000 Felt as a small reward for all the outstanding writing that I do for you, at no cost to you in particular, please let me know where I can pick it up.

Running and Triathlon Links Monday!

Tons of great stuff this week - enjoy!

The Story of Alison Delgado - won her first marathon, then nearly killed in a bike/auto accident, then comes back to run again

Another look at Alison Delgado, with very moving video of her at finish of the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincy - her husband was the ER doc on duty when she came into the hospital...you can't make this stuff up

Adidas ad for their new shoe with Formotion - weird stuff...the heel moves - I don't know if that's a good thing

Men's Olympic Tri team is set - Hunter Kemper makes his fourth straight team...absolutely fricking amazing

And the Women's Olympic Tri team is set as well - some drama in this race

Photos of the Men's Tri race in San Diego to set the team - And then photos of the Women's race

Finally, photos of Lance Armstrong and Andy Potts at the 70.3 Ironman in St. Croix - and Facebook photos of my fav Angela Naeth, in St. Croix

Everything you wanted to know about Kinesio tape - I've wondered if it could help my heel bursitis, but I'm a little afraid it might make it worse somehow

Explaining Ultrarunner Micah True's autopsy results - the press loves to throw out "athlete with enlarged heart!!!", but this article explains it in better detail

For Mother Day, here are some amazing Mom Ultrarunners - when it comes to ultra, women are tougher, and moms are toughest

Will cross-training help your running? - well, that depends...

Here are a bunch of photos from last week's Wildflower race - including shots of both OSU Beavers and UO Ducks on the course

Get ready to do your first tri in six weeks - I'd say if you already know how to swim, you could do one tomorrow

Tri Bike Porn - unfortunately, the only kind I link to here...sorry

Nice article on America's number one hope in the Olympic Women's Marathon - yep, it's Oregon's own Shalane Flanagan

Fastest 5k Runners In OSU History!

Good article over at the Gazette-Times about Hayley Oveson and Laura Carlyle, now the two fastest 5000 meter runners in the history of Oregon State University.

On March 25th, first Oveson, then Carlyle, broke an OSU record dating from 1985! Of course, OSU didn't have a team for a number of years, but still...Carlyle ran a 16:19, so it's not like she's unworthy of holding the record. That's a nice run!

Thanks to Andy Cripe from the Gazette Times for the photo.

No, that's not a Duck...it's a Beaver...with feathers

So we noticed just before we sent Carson off to school today that she was wearing her Pink Oregon Ducks Hoodie. Oh boy. Of course, we had purchased said sweatshirt way back when Eugene was still in the running for "the city that we're going to be in for the next 13 years" before we ultimately decided on Corvallis as our destination. So we stared at Carson for a moment, thinking of the 40-50% of the Adams Elementary students that wear their OSU Beaver gear on a daily basis...then I remembered that she's got anywhere from two inches to two feet on the rest of the students in her kindergarten class..."Carson, if anyone gives you any grief about your Ducks shirt, just sit on them," I said.

She nodded, and we were on our way.
